Interaction design (1) starts from understanding human behavior and cultural contexts, and creates new experiences for living, working, learning and playing through the design of ways of communication and exchange between people, products and environments.
Course Introduction
The undergraduate course Interaction Design (1) of the Department of Information Art Design, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, in the spring semester of 2022, is based on the intersection of science and technology, society, humanities and design, focusing on the relationship between people and science and technology, people and nature in the development of the Internet, starting from understanding human behavior and cultural context, and creating new life, work Experience learning and entertainment.
The course explores the possibility of survival in the metaverse around the theme of "future well-being", and combines open-source technology platforms and future design tools to explore interactive design applications in virtual spaces. It considers and studies the ways in which virtual and reality are connected, in order to present the future vision of digital well-being.
curriculum design
Interaction Design (1) lasts for six weeks (48 class hours), and the course design includes several steps such as vision planning, scenario conception, prototype construction, and reflection transformation. Students are invited to act as "reflection practitioners" in the design process. Through the collection of future signals and analysis of current problems, they construct future images and guide them to form design positioning in future oriented products and services.
Design Process for Future Digital Welfare, Interaction Design (1), Spring Course 2022 at Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts
In the creative process, students start from four preset characters (digital nomads, life scientists, metaverse entrepreneurs, and inheritors of digital intangible cultural heritage), carry out scene construction (Worldbuilding) and inject worldviews, and combine them with the design of fictional prototypes to present a diverse future from a narrative perspective.
A large number of futuristic and design tools were used in the course, such as STEP, Future Cone, Future Triangle, Future Signs, CLA, Alternative Future, Future Wheel, 2X2 Matrix, and other futuristic tools; Design methodologies and tools such as empathy maps, stakeholders, user journey maps, service blueprints, rapid prototyping, tomorrow's headlines, and user testing.
Course content
The metauniverse is leading people to look forward to an Internet space running parallel to the real world, and a virtual reality network world supported by AR, VR, 3D and other technologies. The metauniverse has become a new social ecological model. The construction of the metaverse cannot be separated from the development of related technologies, including VR/AR terminals, 5G, cloud computing, AI, etc. In the face of the sudden COVID-19, the daily contact opportunities between people such as office work, learning and others have been turned into online, which has greatly increased the necessity of virtual interactive space. With the trend of integration between the real physical world and virtual space, the metaverse makes remote socializing, entertainment, and work easier for users. People can more easily explore the virtual world and transform existing production and lifestyle.
In the course, students quickly identify future signals from different user perspectives and bring them into context. Based on the new changes in life and communication in the metaverse, from the virtual dimension to the real dimension, help students discuss the possibilities of future digital life in the metaverse.
Guest sharing
This course has set up a sharing session, inviting two important guests in the field of metaverse to give keynote speeches on the topic of "Living in the Metaverse". Famous curator Zhang Haitao and blockchain artist Liu Jiaying gave wonderful sharing, which has brought a lot of inspiration for students' subsequent creations. At the same time, Li Yan, a teacher from Roblox, was invited to serve as the technical guide for the course. In the middle of the course, he shared the relevant content of the "3D Scene Design Proposal" to help students achieve scheme conversion.
Achievement display
Yisijie has built an art pan learning metaverse community, where people can efficiently, immerse, environmentally friendly, and comprehensively experience various art and experiential activities. People can explore and develop their interests or make friends with similar interests in it, and can also contribute by learning a skill or existing skills, thereby gaining profits.
Life Free Kingdom sets the time in the rapidly developing future of gene editing technology, where life scientist Dr. Jone has established a digital gene system in the metaverse called "Life Free Kingdom" (FL).
With the development of society and the improvement of technology, urban residents who experience and create art in the future era are more aware of the importance of spiritual power and creativity in improving their living standards. Under the promotion of digital intangible cultural heritage, people have gradually developed an interest in ancient art forms, hoping to have a deeper understanding of the ancient culture and social civilization they represent.
As a carrier of future art, Liuchu Pavilion not only protects and inherits the intangible cultural heritage of pottery and clay sculpture in the experiential venue, but also creates its own works to cultivate sentiment and inherit intangible cultural heritage.
With the rapid development of society, people have gradually realized the urgent need to change the production mode of exchanging economic benefits through environmental destruction and excessive use of resources. Environmental protection concepts and policies such as sustainable development and green transportation are constantly deeply rooted in people's hearts; At the same time, the fast-paced life and 996 work pressure have given rise to people's yearning for "poetry and distance". Traveling, traveling, and enjoying life... balancing the unrestrained and unrestrained desires of life with the high efficiency and convenience required for work has become people's beautiful vision.
Expert comments
Tsinghua University's Interaction Design (1) has invited multiple experts from various fields to gather online as the final course review mentors for this course. A team of experts has been invited to serve as course judges, including science fiction writer Wu Yan, new media art curator/art critic Zhang Haitao, Beijing Winter Olympics special effects director Cao Yuxi, and speculative design PhD student Zeng Yiwen, covering topics such as "future thinking methods" and "design creation performance" The three dimensions of "future welfare thinking" provide comprehensive and constructive guidance for the four groups of works, and provide positive feedback on the learning outcomes of students.
epilogue
Interactive Design (1) integrates design research and reflective practice to cultivate students' future literacy, narrative ability, conceptual ability, and expression ability. The course incorporates design foresight methods into the interaction design process, inspiring students to think about the future and enhancing their ability to think critically about design. Strengthen the practical application of three-dimensional interactive platforms in practical tools, develop multidimensional narrative expression abilities, and support students in constructing personalized skill maps (SKILL PRINT).
This course focuses on products and services, and the fall semester's "Interaction Design (2)" will focus on scenarios and activities. Students will continue to explore social innovation and the expansion of reality, inspiring collective wisdom to build a common vision and values.
